Shine like a burning star

Found out today that U2 plan to release another 'best of' album on 20th November. This also happens to be my birthday. I don't believe this to be a coincidence.

Anyway to mark the occasion of this announcement you can find below my favourite U2 lyrics of their 30 year journey. I'm willing to accept that someone somewhere has written better lyrics than Bono...I just haven't found them yet. Any suggestions?

From 'The Fly'-

It's no secret that a conscience can sometimes be a pest,

It's no secret that ambition bites the nails of success,

Every artist is a cannibal

Every poet is a thief,

All kill their inspiration,

Then sing about their grief.

I like the U2 lyrics you put up. But i guess it depends how you decide something is brilliant. I can think of lots of cool lyrics-u talking rhyme/rhythm or impact on emotions. How do u judge?

Wiggy- if you think about all the money that goes into the 3 charities that they run then it makes the purchase easier.

Anon- I see what you're getting at. I love these lyrics because they're clever and true but the lyrics I quoted in the 'Acrobat' post had much more of an impact on my life. So I'd like to hear anything that has engaged your mind or soul.....

One o my favourite lyrics, or just line is suppose is from Last Goodbye - Jeff Buckley...

"This is our last embrace,
Must I dream and always see your face"

Ah unrequited love.

(Away to look out some Morrissey!)

I believe in kingdom come, when all the colours will bleed into to one but yes i'm still running. You broke the thorns and loosed the chains, carried the cross of my shame, you know I believe it!

Ok lyrics that have moved me:
By Jewel:

inside my skin there is this space
it twists and turns
it bleeds and aches
inside my heart there's an empty room
it's waiting for lightning
it's waiting for you
and I am wanting
and I am needing you here
inside the absence of fear
(Absence of Fear)

If I could tell the world just one thing
It would be that we're all OK
and not to worry 'cause worry is wasteful
and useless in times like these
I won't be made useless
I won't be idle with despair
I will gather myself around my faith
For light does the darkness most fear

My hands are small, I know
But they're not yours, they are my own
But they're not yours, they are my own
and I am never broken
(Hands-by Jewel)

there are nightmares on the sidewalks
there are jokes on TV
there are people selling thoughtlessness
with such casualty
but wherefore art thou, Romeo
where have all the brave men gone?
show me one man who knows his own heart
to him I shall belong
(Kiss the Flame-Jewel)

lend your voices only to sounds of freedom
no longer lend your strength to that which you wish to be free from
fill your lives with love and bravery
and we shall lead a life uncommon
(Life Uncommon-Jewel)

All alone I came into this world
All alone I will someday die
Solid stone is just sand and water, baby
Sand and water and a million years gone by
(Beth Neilsen- Sand and water)

I am color...blind
Coffee black and egg white
Pull me out from inside
I am ready
I am ready
I am ready
I am
taffy stuck, tongue tied
Stuttered shook and uptight
Pull me out from inside
I am ready
I am ready
I am ready
I am...fine
I am covered in skin
No one gets to come in
(Counting Crows-Colorblind)

just some to leave you with...

I believe in the kingdom come
Then all the colors will bleed into one
Bleed into one
Well yes I'm still running

You broke the bonds and you
Loosed the chains
Carried the cross
Of my shame
Of my shame
You know I believed it

But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for...

I still havent found what i am looking for.
Sounds great we should sing it to the Lord i still havent found what i am looking for WHAT AN INSULT to Jesus if bono is saved, then his song lyrics should read I HAVE FOUND JESUS FULL STOP.
What absoulute rubish.
I guess this wont be printed on the blog as difference of opion may offend someone.
I think you ought to have a blog called HAPPY blog where everyone can thibk happy thoughts and nothing REAL has to be dealt with

your difference of 'opion' does not offend, it merely amuses.
